Anton Yelchin Hopes Everyone is Satisfied with His New Chekov

Features

By GustavoLeao / 17:42, 14 September 2007 / Star Trek: Nemesis

ReelzChannel posted a new interview with actor Anton Yelchin, who will play the new Pavel Chekov in J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek movie. Here are a few excerpts from the article.

"I'm waiting to read the script, actually," says Yelchin. "I guess they're withholding that until they get casting done or whatever. I plan on... becoming as much of a Trekkie as a I can in the couple weeks before we start shooting - just renting all the box sets, not going outside, not seeing the sun rise, just having the shades drawn."

In the interim, he's sanguine about fan reaction. "Who knows, I may be (scared) later, because Star Trek is such a big thing that I hope I don't let anyone down, I hope everyone is satisfied with whatever. But then again, it's such a big thing that you can't please everyone," says Yelchin. "I look at all these movies like Spider-Man and stuff, and then I think of myself walking out of Spider-Man, saying, ‘Oh well, like, in the cartoon... when I was seven...' Everyone's got their own thing, and some people get very upset and take it personally. But the cool thing about it is if you just think about the fact that people have taken something so personally, it means so much to them. It's kind of a great thing to think about - that Star Trek and Spider-Man, or X-Men could mean so much to someone that they'd actually really take it seriously enough to criticize the hell out of someone because they don't fit their image. If I think about it that way, I'll take it less seriously."

The full interview is here.

It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. STAR TREK VOYAGER's Robert Duncan McNeill serves Chuck as a supervising producer and director.0

Quote:"No, I said Chekov was no more than 22 in TOS. Kirk was in his early 30's in TOS."

Actually you said "Know the facts! Chekov was suppose to very young during TOS, no more than 22-years old, so Anton Yelchin is around the right age. You made no mention of Kirk being 30. The fact remains is that they want a 20ish looking guy to play Kirk. This guy is way to young. There was no 4 year age gap between Kirk and Chekov in TOS. There was no Chekov in the first season anyways. But suddenly he will be there on Kirks first day as Captain?

Quote:"Now, just to let you know, an actor's age and a character's age CAN be different. Just because Anton Yelchin is 18 doesn't mean that he can't play a character older than him.

So they are going to make him look older then? That is just ridiculous.

Quote:"And just because they are looking for generally younger actors doesn't mean the characters will be young as well. Don't forget, the character of Picard was actually 20-30 years OLDER than the acter Patrick Stewart."

They want young actors. It has been mentioned several times by Zac, Anton's choice and even Matt Damon made reference to his conversation with Abrams. They want a young cast. They want to make sure that they can keep that "young look" after this movie and the next 2 they have Zac signed on for.

Quote:"Oh, very original! If you're going to insult me, be a little bit more creative than that!"

An insult would of been something like "your an idiot, dumbass etc". But this was no insult. It was just a statement of fact. It is funny how you are going to play the wounded guy after your highly intelligent (note add sarcasm) comment of "How about you sit down, shut up".

Quote:"Well, at least I don't bitch and moan ,like a pathetic Scorned-wannabe, about every little thing that comes out about the new movie.

Actually I don't see much of you posting anything around here. After doing a little bit of homework. It appears this Scorned guy made you look foolish quite often on this site. I think I am sensing some residual anger and now you are going to lash out. So it seems that anyone who gets your feathers in an up roar will now be called "Scorned wanna be". With a lame comment like that you lose all credibility when you say "be a little more creative than that".

Ohh and by the way Erik Jendresen, writer of Star Trek: The Beginning is not going to happen. Time to update your signature!
