Anton Yelchin Hopes Everyone is Satisfied with His New Chekov

Features

By GustavoLeao / 17:42, 14 September 2007 / Star Trek: Nemesis

ReelzChannel posted a new interview with actor Anton Yelchin, who will play the new Pavel Chekov in J.J. Abrams upcoming Star Trek movie. Here are a few excerpts from the article.

"I'm waiting to read the script, actually," says Yelchin. "I guess they're withholding that until they get casting done or whatever. I plan on... becoming as much of a Trekkie as a I can in the couple weeks before we start shooting - just renting all the box sets, not going outside, not seeing the sun rise, just having the shades drawn."

In the interim, he's sanguine about fan reaction. "Who knows, I may be (scared) later, because Star Trek is such a big thing that I hope I don't let anyone down, I hope everyone is satisfied with whatever. But then again, it's such a big thing that you can't please everyone," says Yelchin. "I look at all these movies like Spider-Man and stuff, and then I think of myself walking out of Spider-Man, saying, ‘Oh well, like, in the cartoon... when I was seven...' Everyone's got their own thing, and some people get very upset and take it personally. But the cool thing about it is if you just think about the fact that people have taken something so personally, it means so much to them. It's kind of a great thing to think about - that Star Trek and Spider-Man, or X-Men could mean so much to someone that they'd actually really take it seriously enough to criticize the hell out of someone because they don't fit their image. If I think about it that way, I'll take it less seriously."

The full interview is here.

CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. An insult would of been something like "your an idiot, dumbass etc". But this was no insult. It was just a statement of fact. It is funny how you are going to play the wounded guy after your highly intelligent (note add sarcasm) comment of "How about you sit down, shut up".

You did call him a putz. I don't know where you're from, but I'd consider that an insult.

And as for the characters being played by actors of a younger or older age, it's a very common practice. Why can't you just sit back, smoke some left-handed cigarettes, eat a bowl of Fruity Pebbles, or do whatever you have to do to relax, and just stop this rush to judgment. They haven't even filled out the cast yet, and you're freaking out about how wrong things in the production are. The movie is getting tremendous positive buzz at this point, which is a hell of a lot better than any real fan of the franchise could hope to expect at this point in the process. So stop being nutjob fanboy and relax.

Actually you said "Know the facts! Chekov was suppose to very young during TOS, no more than 22-years old, so Anton Yelchin is around the right age. You made no mention of Kirk being 30.

Can you even read? Here's the exact quote from my previous post that you yourself quoted:
"No, I said Chekov was no more than 22 in TOS. Kirk was in his early 30's in TOS."

Does it look like one sentence to you? One complete thought? No it's no sentences with two complete thoughts. The first was a reference to what I said earlier, while the second was an additional statement.

An insult would of been something like "your an idiot, dumbass etc".

And still not very original.

But this was no insult. It was just a statement of fact.

I do consider questioning my knowledge of Star Trek as an insult since I am The TREKMAN: The MAN Who Know His TREK, thank you very much.

Actually I don't see much of you posting anything around here.

Well, I've been around for several years, though I haven't really been active in forum since Enterprise went off the air, but unfortunately the upcoming movie has brought me back.

I think I am sensing some residual anger and now you are going to lash out.

No, I just have zero tolerance for assholes like Scorned. Especially on this site.

So it seems that anyone who gets your feathers in an up roar will now be called "Scorned wanna be".

If you read the other comments, you'll see I wasn't the only one who compared you to Scorned. Tupperfan called you a Scorned clone.

Ohh and by the way Erik Jendresen, writer of Star Trek: The Beginning is not going to happen. Time to update your signature!

It doesn't matter if Star Trek: The Beginning was canned or not, Mr. Jendresen's words are still valid today so have some faith, will ya!

Quote from Captain Patti:
There was no Chekov in the first season anyways.

Your conclusion shows a lack of creative reasoning skills. There was a Pavel Chekov aboard NCC-1701 in the timeframe of TOS season one, but we don't see him. Another character does see him, however.

Let's recap the situation for newbies: Khan Noonien Singh is introduced in first season TOS episode "Space Seed". At that time, we don't see Chekov at the helm. Yet, in post-TOS movie The Wrath of Khan, Singh says, "I never forget a face. Mister Chekov, isn't it?"

Any fan with commonsense will consider that Chekov, like Sulu, wasn't a bridge officer at the start of his tour aboard Kirk's ship. This is one option for Chekov in the ST:XI story.

The Trek gossip bloggers have overlooked Yelchin's remark (in a video interview at MovieWeb) that his young Pavel character works as an engineer: "I know [Chekov] is an engineer. He's a young, like, engineer on the craft."

Khan will first encounter young Chekov on Scotty's engineering team at the time of "Space Seed."
