It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. STAR TREK VOYAGER's Robert Duncan McNeill serves Chuck as a supervising producer and director.0

Doctor Who magazine managed to do well for the 16 years when there was no new series being produced.... and it doesn't have to be all Enterprise/Voyager/Nemesis bashing either.

I haven't read Doctor Who Monthly since the mid-1980s so I cannot comment on how "well" they managed in the absence of new TV productions.

I can say that Doctor Who's cancellation way-back-when was much akin to ST:TOS's termination back in the 60's in that it wasn't justified. If I remember correctly it had more to do with the man in charge of BBC programming's personal preference to ditch the old.

"Star Trek," on the other hand, suffered a sustained decline in quality since the motion picture "Generations" (with the noted exception of "First Contact").

Being critical, by-the-way, is not "bashing." I can and have, in great detail, laid forth the foundation of my opinions regarding Trek's creative downturn. I do not feel any obligation to give something a "free pass" just because it bears the name "Star Trek" I am a discerning fan. Not some doey-eyed fanboy.

Back to the topic on hand, I have read Trek related magazines since they started coming out in the late-60s, early 70s. I can honestly say that in the past decade I have read very little that justifies buying a new Trekzine.
