Brett Ratner Says X-Men 3 Will be Really The Last Stand

Features

By GustavoLeao / 08:59, 15 February 2006 / General Genre/SciFi

MTV.com posted an exclusive interview with X-Men The Last Stand director Brett Ratner, in which he reveals there will be no more X-Men movies other than possible spinoffs.

"Well, it seems to be the last of the series," Ratner said "We wanted to make sure the audiences knew that this was a trilogy. Even though they weren't made together like Lord of the Rings, this is really closure for the X-Men series. ... This is the last stand for sure."

About the photos leaked on the internet last week and posted here at TrekWeb (story), he said "Those photos were [taken] before I even started shooting. They were done in the testing process, so those photos are very, very old."

"I think whenever you're on the Internet and you have nothing to do and you're a fan, you become very anxious to get the information, but you have to consider the source," he continued, saying that such leaks undermine his efforts. "If it's sent out by [the studio], then you know it's official, but if it's put up on the Internet by someone who stole something illegally, then I think you should first consider what you're looking at."

The full interview can be found here.

X-Men trilogy | Report this post to moderator

If X-Men 3 is indeed the last X-Men movie then everyone at Fox is a bunch of F'n idiots. The core comic title, Uncanny X-Men, is up to issue number #469. And that is just the core title. There is also Astonishing X-Men, and X-Men without an adjective. The comic book writers have been able to come up with enough stories to tell more then 469 stories. The movie people at Fox came up with three. WOW!

Seriously, Hollywood needs to smack thiese small-minded "I can't see past the number three" idiots upside the head and hand them their pink slips. X-Men is much bigger then 3 movies. There are hundreds of characters who haven't even been seen yet! This franchise could easily go to X-Men 469! (The comics did!) But no. Hollywood is too stupid to see beyong 3. Stan Lee didn't stop at X-Men #3, and neither should the movies.

Of course they hired an idiot like Brett Ratner to direct so why would I expect them to know what they're doing?

... as soon as I heard that Fox couldn't wait for Singer to finish Supes and decided to go with Ratner, I knew this was the last movie too. Ratner is just not figuring this out? Is this related to the story or the fact of the constant reworking being done on the movie now?

Of course they could always bring in Joel Shumacher to put nips on all the male costumes and mess up X-men so bad we won't even want any more.

What's up with that? A franchise with so many interesting characters and stories that could be told being limited to three movies only? This could've been FOX's BOND series, something that could be developed into at least a dozen films, even if you don't always utilize all of the original cast members.

I agree - Fox never really wanted this franchise nor did they know what to do with it (read: Tom Rothman). I can't believe this - although, if they decide to continue the films later on and repair any damage to the franchise from this film, if it ends up being as bad as I've heard) - I can give them a hint on how to do it: Bishop.

Fox is just squandering the potential.

Fox Studio Head Tom Rothman said "X-MEN THE LAST STAND, it's is the conclusion of this trilogy. These three movies work as a trilogy."

yeah, you're right, I read that but even there he seemed more open ended about it, talking about spin-offs, I just never equated the spin offs to mean a non-traditional, non-titled "X-Men" movie. It's just such a huge dynamic world that I can see you still doing a movie calling it "X-men" even if it just deals with fewer characters or choses to focus in on one specific character. It worries me that if they throw us say a "Wolverine" movie, it will be something like a "Catwoman" movie - not as good on its own as it was when it was a part of the whole. hope that makes sense at 1am in the morning.

Well he did say that there may be spin off movies to carry on the story, but I agree only 3 movies is cutting things short. But haven't we heard this before? People stating that there will be no sequels etc. and then they come out with one more?

Besides wouldn't a spin off movie still include the regular X-Men characters? I know H.B. aka Storm was wanting her own movie, but after Catwoman I don't have any confidence that she can carry her own movie as a superhero.

And what about the sentries? I've been wanting to see those brought to life in live action.

I have a feeling that the studio's will bat around the idea of a spinoff and eventually return to X-men movies.

I saw the reaction people had on the Internet and in test screenings and I'm working my ass of to get back and try to have the scenes redone before the movie comes out...

...probably right. And, I'll bring up an old debate again. I knew they were gonna throw this one together when they decided to make Beast a real person in make-up instead of full CGI. Nothin' wrong with Grammer. But, he could have supplied the voice only instead.
