Manchester Online just posted a brief interview with STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION star Patrick Stewart, in which he talks about his upcoming ITV network four-part sci-fi thriller ELEVENTH HOUR.

Stewart will play 'Professor Alan Hood', an emeritus physics professor who specialises in averting potential disasters. In each episode, he is called on by the Government to help avert a human disaster caused by a new scientific development.

"I'm delighted to be part of this project and looking forward to starting filming in May," he said. "It feels good to be working for Granada again, which is the first time since I was in Coronation Street."

"I couldn't be happier with the way this has worked out," said creator and producer Stephen Gallagher "In Patrick, I'm getting what I wanted for Hood - a mature, vigorous, heroic figure of visible intelligence and sensitivity.

Stewart insists it's not ITV's answer to BBC1 hit DOCTOR WHO.

"It is about science, but it is not science-fiction," he said. "There is no resemblance to DOCTOR WHO."

Maybe not Doctor Who, but... | Report this post to moderator

The series sounds much more like Doomwatch.

There won't be alien invasions, but I expect the science on show will be more than a little 'out there' at times. Ah well, it'll be worth watching.

I'd like to see Patrick Stewart guest starring in an episode of the next series of Doctor Who though.

First thing I thought - better hope that the Terry Nation estate doesn't hear about it. I know I'll be watching it, though. As far as Stewart on Doctor Who, I'd like to see him play the Master (actually, I'd like to see Eccleston come back to play the Master but I don't think that's going to happen).

Captain turned Doctor...yeah...! | Report this post to moderator

Maybe it isn't Dr Who, but it does get the synapses churning... Patrick Stewart playing the good Doctor, replacing the departing Christopher Eccleston. Put a wig on him and you have a Doctor with the faring of Jon Pertwee, the crustiness of William Hartnell and the height of Patrick Troughton.

Would it work? I keep grinning thinking about it. Yeah, it would work! They'll have to add more companions, though.

I think casting Paddy as the next Dr Who would work as well, he already seems to be typecast in Sci-fi so at least Dr Who can enable him to act with some fabouyance never possible as Charles Xaviar or Cpt. Picard.
