Scott Bakula and Connor Trinner Excited About "In a Mirror, Darkly" Two-Parter

Features

By GustavoLeao / 15:01, 15 March 2005 / Enterprise

The latest issue of SFX magazine, just out in the UK, features an exclusive interview with STAR TREK ENTERPRISE stars Scott Bakula and Connor Trinner, in which they talk about the upcoming Mirror Universe two-parter, "In a Mirror, Darkly". Here are a few excerpts :

"[...] It's weird [shakes his head], It's hard to feel like I'm anchoring my character in anything." Trinner said about playing the Mirror 'Trip Tucker' "I'm in a netherworld or something. Also, what you see isn't Trip. It's this alternate universe guy that is much harder and colder. All the relationships are significantly different, whereas we've spent the better part of four years forming these other relationships with rhythms... and it's all fucked up! It's interesting, and I'm curious to see how it turns out."

"I'm extremely happy with [Season 4]...." Trinner said "I think touching back to [TOS], as well as having Brent Spiner [Dr. Arik Soong] telling his own history as the creator of 'Data', has been interesting. It was kind of what I thought we were going to do from the outset. Now that that we are actually doing it, it's better...its taking chances with the franchise that I don't think they've done before and, again, which I though was always going to be part of the show."

Scott jokes about sitting in the Captain's chair of the Constitution-Class U.S.S Defiant "This is a freaking throne, baby! I like this seat a lot better...[looks at the mini-skirt wearing Jolene Blalock with a twinkle] .....Get those skirts raised... we need some slits!"

"You get all these little visual hits periodically." Bakula said about the filming "Dominic [Keating] was preening around his chair with his hair slicked back. The whole thing is pretty crazy. It's a Mirror Universe and we are these darker versions of ourselves, so it's kind of abstract. The story is so twisted and my character is totally getting off on this huge powerful machine that he is going to get to blow people up with. We are acting so un-Star Treky. We have such bad attitudes. We are chewing it up. It's really a narcissistic power trip thing going."

"[ENTERPRISE] gives you things that are way beyond your fantasies as an actor." Bakula said "It takes it to a whole new level. I was wrestling a CGI Gorn last night!"

More from Bakula and Trinner can be found at The Great Link.

And, as reported yesterday, photos from the episode can be found here.

CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. STAR TREK VOYAGER's Robert Duncan McNeill serves Chuck as a supervising producer and director.0

IF THEY REALLY PROMOTE THIS EPISODE ... notice I said IF, and I mean a BIG IF ... this could easily get the highest ratings we've seen since early season one. But once again ... IF.

It has been a long time since I've looked forward to watching a Star Trek episode this much.

Do we know yet if there is a new f'd up intro to In a mirror, darkly? I sure hope there is a new intro and some new music.

Also, I had not heard anything about a Gorn.

This show is going to rock. It sounds as if this probably could have been Trek XI.

Wow, after 5 series and nearly a dozen movies I can't recall one interview up until now where someone used the phrase "all fucked up". Weird :)

Watch: this episode pulls in a 73 share or some bizarre number - it'll probably be on TV reviewers best picks for the day.

These comments in the article -- now that's what Archer should have been: a real hot-dog from upper state NY who got command of a starship!

But all that aside - I hope these actors get the opportunity to work again; actually, I would like them to show up on an episode of SG-1 as another SG-Team: that would be wild; or, even more amusingly, show up as the lost legendary crew of the PEGASUS on BSG with Scott Bakula as Commander Cain.

Bakula could be this heavily bearded, swarthy legendary commander of the Colonial Fleet. That would be my image, bordering on the disillusional of being a deity himself or something -- an old drinking and fighting buddy to Adama who knows something since he's been 'lost' -- he knows the way to Earth. Why else has the PEGASUS been away for so many years.

But...back to Bakula: Raise Those Slits...uh, I mean, Shields!

I have a better idea for Scott.
