The Sci-Fi Channel today announced the premiere of a new online feature meant to accompany the last five new episodes of Ronald D. Moore's BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Termed "podcasting" for the popular IPod portable music platform, the broadcasts are available in MP3 format and can play on your computer or a multitude of other portable devices.

"This DVD-style audio commentary from Battlestar executive producer and writer Ronald D. Moore utilizes the much buzzed-about podcasting technology, and is now available for weekly download at SCIFI.COM," according to a press release from the network.

Each podcast is a full-length commentary on the episode of BSG by Moore, and can be downloaded in segments for each act or all at once. Beeps on the track indicate when to pause for commercials and you can listen right along with the episode.

The podcasts will debut each Friday, with the commentary for "Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down" now available. The event will lead up to the April 1st season one finale of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. Season two will begin in July.

The R2 version is coming out rather soon, I think later this month or in April, with the R1 out later. I would hope the R1 would be out before season 2 starts to air in July.

EDIT: Heh, hit the wrong button... this is a reply to the replies below...

"Serenity" is the movie "Star Wars" prequels wish they could be.

Sci-Fi's doing some pretty interesting stuff, putting all this behind-the-scenes stuff on their site. First they had artwork and trailers, like any other website would have, then they added Moore's "blog". Now they've got downloadable episode commentaries, deleted scenes, and a complete episode you can watch right on the site.

If only other shows had this kind of material available. It's probably a safe bet that this stuff will also be on the upcoming DVD release.
