Features

By GustavoLeao / 13:33, 23 February 2005 / Enterprise

STAR TREK ENTERPRISE star Jolene Blalock was a guest on COAST TO COAST AM With George Noory radio show yesterday, February 22nd, in which she talked about the show's cancellation for the first time.

According to reports at the TrekBBS, Blalock sounded sad that the show was cancelled and thanked the fans for their support. She praised producer Manny Coto and the writing this season, claiming that Coto wants the actors input. She addmited she was bitter about the previous seasons. She said that the show's cancellation was a message to the producers that changes need to be made.

She also praised the upcoming Mirror Universe arc and said that this is how the series should have been from the beginning. The actress said she would have made the show like the "In a Mirror, Darkly" two-parter from the start.

Jolene also told the host George Noory that the final three episodes ("Demons", "Terra Prime" and the untitled finale) were part of an arc, although she hasn't read the finale script yet. She finished the interview with a "Live Long and Prosper" message to the fans.

It's return to prime time television can be attributed to a successful fan renewnal campaign last year. CHUCK is a one-hour, action-comedy series that follows Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi, "Less Than Perfect") -- a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. This upcoming season will include some special guest stars, including Brandon Routh of "Superman Returns" who will play CIA agent Daniel Shaw in an episode, and the addition of SUBWAY restaurant as a major advertiser to the show. Chuck averaged a 4.0/6 rating last season, about eight percent better than the recently cancelled "Trauma". Ratings-challenged Heroes moves back an hour when Chuck returns on Monday nights. STAR TREK VOYAGER's Robert Duncan McNeill serves Chuck as a supervising producer and director.0

And again... | Report this post to moderator

To the SaveEnterprise people... when one of your stars, not for the first time, goes on record that this season has been different because Coto actually wants the actors input as opposed to Berman and Braga just doing whatever they want, something is wrong. When this star says that the cancellation should be a message to the producers that something needs to change, again, that's a sign something is wrong. Berman & Braga are the problem with Star Trek: Enterprise. And they are why a 5th season will never happen. No one wants to see Berman Trek anymore. They're tired of it. Shows like 24, Alias, Babylon 5, BSG, etc etc etc have raised the bar for genre television. Berman hasn't been keeping up.

Here's an example. He thought the season long arc idea in season 3 was revolutionary. HA! 24 is the ultimate example of a season long arc, but it's been done even before them. Buffy and Angel are really good examples, as is Babylon 5. When I heard Enterprise was doing a season-long arc, I said, "Yeah, so what? Tonnes of other shows do that, why is it special?" But to Berman it was a fresh new idea. The man is as stale as week old bread. He needs to go, someone else needs to be put in charge, and a new series needs to be created. The best idea is to start it off with a 2 night mini-series, and judge fan reaction, a la Battlestar Galactica.

A three-part arc season finale? | Report this post to moderator

Did I read this right? Are the last three eps going to be one arc? Well, if it's true that might make it interesting, but definately different than other series.

Atleast she was somewhat sober this time | Report this post to moderator

Though it was pretty evident that she was losing her thought proceses at various intervals, the interview was on most part sober, and conservative. The people who called in were definetely screened as all the question were pretty mild and generic. All the bashers crowd was definetely screened out in my view. Neither did George asked any pointed questions about current state of trek and the people clearly resposible for it. I think Art Bell might have done a more straight-forward and critical interview with er. A lot of trek fandom dont like Joelene potrayl as well as how she looks. She's not the knockout that 7of9 or Six from BSG is to the show(which she was intended to be). In my view it was a safe interview. Except that finale would be 1 hour with a tie-in to TNG nothing she said is extraordinary.

She took time out of schedule to do an interview for Enterprise fans so why should she be put on trial and interrogated by a bunch of "bashers". Why should she answer to anybody that doesn't like her or the way she looks? I certainly would never agree to that and neither should she. There are a number of reasons why the show was cancelled, and believe me it hardly has anything to do with her clothing. I could probably pick out 20 people here at TrekWeb who are viciously offended by her clothing, but I think most people would agree that her outfit is still quite benign.

I've also listened to Coast for the last 8 years or so. Art Bell would most likely not have given a more "critical" interview because he wants his guests to return for more interviews.

Well i have been listening to the show since Art Bell changed his format from his orginal conservative talk show to a paranormal show in 1991. Art is more critical and is known to take chances lot more than george who is known to play it safe. Especially since Art moved to weekends only he has got even more 'i dont care, answer my question' kind of no non-sense attitude. I like him much more than george. Well all of this is besides the point here so getting back to the main topic here. Joelene was not doing any of us a favour by coming on coast to coast. She most likely did it is to catch as much lime-light as she can before enterprise ends and she becomes a unknown like she was before. So everything is not kosher here. And her looks and outfit is just one of the points. We all know why enterprise really got cancelled. Anyway, i just feel that since they gave about 5 gushers a chance to field questions, letting a critical fan ask a pointed question could have made this interview feel real not some coffee talk get together kind of thing. Coast to coast is supposed to go where 'noone has gone before' not worry about playing it safe. No wonder people like me usually only tune in when Art Bell does the show.
