By Steve Krutzler / 23:56, 29 August 2004 / People

DEEP SPACE NINE veteran Rene Auberjonois is set to join William Shatner on his new ABC legal drama BOSTON LEGAl, according to ReneFiles.com.

The site reports that the 'Odo' actor will appear in at least three of the first five episodes of the David E. Kelley series, playing the recurring character 'Paul Lewiston'. The character is the head of the law firm where Shatner and co-star James Spader hang their hats.

Check out the original post here.

In related news, Auberjonois's father, Fernand Auberjonois, passed away in his retirement home in Ireland Friday. Mr. Auberjonois was a celebrated journalist for the Toledo Blade, serving as the paper's European correspondent. The paper has published a tribute with photos of the elder Auberjonois here in Adobe Acrobat format.

TrekWeb sends out our deepest condolences to Rene and his family.

It sounds like quite an interesting family. Rene is a spitting image of his father in the army photo.

It's hard to fathom that a small market like Toledo had its own international correspondant, in this day and age of AP wire stories filling the local papers nationwide.

And I didn't realize that Rene A. had roots in Ohio, my home state. Now I know why I always liked him so much! :-)

Looking at the tribute to Rene's father, it looks to me like his name was "Fernand" rather than "Rene." According to the article, Fernand's *father* was named Rene (implying that the Odo actor was named for his grandfather, not his father.)

Never before have things been so much the way they are now.

Ooops, yes that's right. I was thrown off by the paragraph about Fernand's father and his son both being named Rene... thanks for catching the error!
