Actress Chase Masterson is interviewed by the Subspace Radio website in a new 3-hour audio interview in which she talks about her voice-acting as Holo-Leeta in the Star Trek Online game, her role as Leeta in Star Trek Deep Space Nine, her role as The Singer in the award-winning movie Yesterday was a Lie and much, much more. Here are a few excerpts of the interview.
"The overall direction of science fiction is so different than it was during the run of DS9 or Voyager." Masterson said "The style of TV has changed dramatically with BSG, Firefly, Buffy & Angel; it's grittier, the humor is dryer, the acting is subtler, the pacing is faster and hipper, the music and editing are modernized. So a new Trek can't follow the older style, which is part of what I think people are envisioning and afraid of. If a new series is made, I believe it would be best to do it in the prime universe timeline, but similar in style to the newer standards of television and to Abrams's film. It's important for people not to automatically associate the prime timeline with the TNG/DS9 production 'look,' which is somewhat dated now."
"As much as I've been around the genre for a long time, I have gotten some of my deepest understandings of it through James Kerwin, who wrote and directed Yesterday Was a Lie. Actually, he has some extremely strong ideas for the next Trek series, as well as some great genre scripts in the pipeline."
You can listen to the full audio interview with Chase at Subspace Radio.
The interview itself begins 30 minutes into the show and runs for the entire duration in four parts.
