Actor Andrew Garfield on Playing Peter Parker in the 3-D Spider-Man Reboot Opening Four Days After Star Trek XII

The Hollywood Reporter posted an exclusive interview with actor Andrew Garfield, in which he talks for the first time about his role as the new Peter Parker in the 3-D Spider-Man movie reboot, which opens four days after Star Trek XII in Summer 2012. Here is an excerpt.

"I have been waiting for this phone call for 24 years, for someone to call me up and say, "Hey, we want you to pretend to be a character that you've always wanted to be all your life, and we're going to do it with cool cameras and cool effects and you're going to feel like you're swinging through New York City. Do you want to do that?" [laughs] "Let me just consult with my seven-year old self and see what he thinks..." So my seven-year-old self started screaming in my soul and saying, This is what we've been waiting for. Like every young boy who feels stronger on the inside than they look on the outside, any skinny boy basically who wishes their muscles matched their sense of injustice, God, it's just the stuff that dreams are made of, for sure. It's a true f*cking honor to be part of this symbol that I actually think is a very important symbol and it's meant a great deal to me, and it continues to mean something to people. So yeah, I feel like I've been preparing for it for a while. Ever since Halloween when I was four years old and I wore my first Spider-Man costume."

He went on to talk about how he's going to balance such a high-profile role with his other acting gigs and how he's preparing, although he's only started gearing up for the movie, which starts shooting in December, and he hopes to do some theater or other work before then.

You can read the full interview at The Hollywood Reporter.

Anyone think they should reschedule the ST12 release date?

I never understood why so many people worry about release dates. You make it sound as if someone sees Spiderman first that there is NO way the same moviegoer will see something that was released before it! Like moviegoers will have to choose between the two? Trust me fellas, most of the people who will shell out $11.75 to see Spiderman will ALSO spend the same amount to see Star Trek XII on another weekend -- either before or after. This really is much ado about nothing.
