Film Score Monthly to Release Complete Ron Jones Star Trek The Next Generation CD Box Set

Features

By GustavoLeao / 01:11, 31 July 2010 / General Star Trek

Film Score Monthly posted the following note on their website regardinga upcoming Star Trek The Next Generation soundtrack CD Box Set :

Then probably in the first week or two of September-we hope-is FSM Box 05. This is the long-rumored Ron Jones box set of Star Trek: The Next Generation music. 14 discs, $149.95, limited to 5000 copies-40 complete episode scores, plus some previously unreleased "Best of Both Worlds" cues and Ron's two Interplay computer game scores. All in immaculate stereo. The packaging is in the style of the Rózsa box: the booklet has an introductory essay and track listings (and lots of ST:TNG art), with comprehensive liner notes to be posted online. Did you guys know this was my dream project? I fantasized about putting this together ever since I fell in love with the scores twenty years ago. In fact it was twenty years ago almost exactly that "The Best of Both Worlds" aired.

If you want to place an order-you can't. Not yet. But you can get on the Screen Archives mailing list if you are not already and be notified the moment they are available.

The original report is here.

Not QUITE complete... | Report this post to moderator

The GNP Crescendo label apparently has a death-grip on the rights to THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS, PARTS I & II, which they released on CD many years ago. That release isn't perfect (FSM would certainly have improved the audio quality), but it's pretty substantial, and still widely available. BOBW will be represented on FSM's box in the form of the best 5-minutes of previously unreleased music from the two-parter, which is apparently all FSM could do. Never fear, though -- the entirety of the REST of Jones' Trek output (40 episodes -- including HEART OF GLORY, which GNP released a suite from -- and 2 game scores) will be present and accounted for. This set will be absolutely essential, in my book! Anyone who thinks modern Trek TV scores were all "sonic wallpaper" needs to go back and check out the Jones episodes.
