Shame half the aliens didn't make it into the movie though! Put them in the next one, JJ.

And Trek 11 should have got noms for cinematography, art direction, music and maybe costume design.

Everyone goes on and on about how groundbreaking Avatar was. But really? Motion capture suits and CGI. Seems like that was all done before.

The true groundbreaking work this year was in the use of shakycams combined with lensflares. Someone is going to be winning a lifetime achievement award in a few years.

It may only be a technical award, but... | Report this post to moderator

We can now call it the Academy Award winning "Star Trek". To which I say, suck it, haters.

Congrats on the win.

I still think Trek should have won the other categories as well. Unfortunately Dances with Smurfs won for Visual Effects despite being mainly a cartoon. Up was a CG animated film as well and it wasn't nominated for best visual effects. On the flip side I thought it odd that Pocahontas: Insurrection wasn't nominated for best animated film.

Note this is all in jest, however, I still don't understand the hype for Avatar besides the artificially created kind that has convinced people that a rehash of old plotlines and cliches is actually a good movie just because it's kind of pretty. (Although, Zoe Saldana is hot no matter what character she is playing.)
