Star Trek star William Shatner will be honoured with a lifetime achievement award at this year's Banff World Television Festival.

The iconic Canadian actor, known for his role as Captain James T. Kirk on Star Trek The Original Series and movies, is set to receive the award at the event scheduled for June 13 to 16.

Festival organizers say the 78-year-old Shatner will also lead a "master class" and discuss a career that has spanned more than 50 years.

Shatner's career highlights include starring roles on "T.J. Hooker" and "Boston Legal."

He's next slated to star in a CBS pilot based on a Twitter feed.

The four-day television festival, which typically draws some of the biggest names in the business, will run concurrently with the digital media conference nextMEDIA.

"William Shatner is one of the most celebrated pop-culture icons in the 21st century and we are delighted to be honouring his career achievements at Banff," festival executive director Peter Vamos said Tuesday in a release.

"His ability to keep pace with the times, leverage the latest industry and technology trends, and inject humour every step of the way have been the keys to an unbelievably successful, decades-long career. To stay on top throughout it all, particularly in such a tough, evolving industry, is truly inspiring."

Great place, hope he'll enjoy! Will be in Alberta by then, this would be an awesome excuse to visit old friends and catch a glimpse of the old dude.
