How much real cinematograhy is in Avatar? And it gets nominated? Star Trek should have been nominated in that field. One of the best shot films of the year.

--------

"I would be happy for Star Trek to come along decades later with a new group of minds. I'd love someone to say, 'Besides this one, Gene Roddenberry's was nothing!'" - Gene Roddenberry

"...I think it would be wonderful years from now to see Star Trek come back with an equally talented new cast playing Spock and Kirk and Bones and Scotty and all the rest, as they say tomorrow's things to tomorrow's generations..." - Gene Roddenberry

...it should've been nominated for music and production design too. And maybe best film over District 9 - Trek got better reviews than that and Avatar.

Sound editing / mixing? | Report this post to moderator
By: DixonHill (Odo's file, contact) @ 13:34:39 on Feb 02, 2010

I've got no real idea of the difference between sound editing and sound mixing. Is editing the sound FX part and mixing the complete sonic direction of the movie (e.g. the relation between sound SFX, speech, score etc)? Or is it the other way round?

I guess Trek could win one of these but it doesn't stand a chance SFX-wise against Avatar. The make-up categorie could be won as well. They did a great job in recreating the TOS characters via make-up. But maybe the other two period pics have an advantage there.

STAR TREK IV was also nominated for 4 Academy Awards back in 1987. But lost in all 4 categories. Lets hope history is different this time and JJ's Trek turns to be a winner in all 4 categories. This movie truly deserves it.

"Star Trek" - Did the Academy learn nothing from its egregious omission of "The Dark Knight" last year? The fact that the Best Picture field was expanded to 10 films and included another sci fi film, "District 9," makes "Star Trek's" snub that much more painful. The clever and entertaining reboot of the popular franchise was crafted well. It deserved better than its handful of technical nominations.
