J.J. Abrams is One of Entertainment Weekly's Entertainers of the Decade

This week issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine features their "Best of the Decade" issue. They named their 15 Favorite Entertainers of the Decade, among them Star Trek director J.J. Abrams

"I had never been a fan of the Star Trek TV Series." Abrams told EW "I wasn't sure I wanted to direct a movie, but I agreed to produce one because I felt if it was done in a certain way, I would want to see it. Once we had a script, I suddenly saw that Star Trek had all the things I loved about movies. It had great characters. It was romantic. Funny. Full of action and spectacle. Sweet and full of heart. And I realized : Why am I looking for other projects that have those qualities when I already have that right in front of me ? It was a question of falling in love with the Star Trek world and  then realizing I'd be jealous of whoever directed it if I didn't."

It's about time more people realize this. The future for Star Trek is looking very bright indeed thanks to J.J. Abrams. Congratulations to him for making the list, it is well deserved.

I can't believe a decade is actually coming to an end. Unlike the close of the 70s, the 80s and the 90s, this one is such a non-event I never even realized it was happening until recently.

As for Abrams, I can't disagree with EW's sentiment. Between Alias, Lost, and now reviving Star Trek, along with a number of other hits in between, Abrams is certainly one of the most successful producer-directors Hollywood has seen in recent years. And he's a double threat, scoring in both TV and film.
