Bruce Greenwood's performance and command presence in ST09 were good enough that you could build a script around him alone. I watched ST09 for the 4th time last night and while all of the performances were very good, Pike and McCoy are definite stand outs.
Not only should Pike appear in the next film, he should have a stronger role, IMHO.
Getting back to McCoy. DS9 was the only Trek my wife watched.... she had no idea who Bones was. She watched the movie with me again last night (her 3rd time) and she repeatedly said that she hoped McCoy had a bigger role in the next movie. I youtubed some footage of the original McCoy and she was blown away how Karl Urban channeled Deforest Kelly without actually imitating him. He was a pure joy to watch.
I have to say, I'm all for whatever Abrams and company want to do in the sequel, but honestly, one of the few things that would greatly disappoint me would be if they didn't bring back Greenwood as Pike.

They would be foolish not to include Pike. He should at least give Kirk and company their marching orders. My marching orders for JJ are include Bruce Greenwood! One helluva actor.

I am a fan of Mr Greenwood since his 1990s TV Series The Nowhere Man and I must say it will be a loss if his character does not appear in Trek XII. He was wonderful as Captain Pike and I want to see more of him, peharps in command of a new starship (a new Excelsior or something like that).

Would sure love to give him a great role in the next movie like the last. Bruce is a great guy!
