J.J. Abrams Says Star Trek XII Will Probably be Released in 2012

By GustavoLeao / 15:02, 16 November 2009 / Star Trek: Nemesis

TrekMovie.com posted the second part of their interview with Star Trek director J.J. Abrams and here is an excerpt.

TrekMovie: Originally Variety reported the plan for the sequel to be a 2011 movie, now Bob and Alex have talked about it maybe being a 2012 movie. You have a million projects going on right now, what is your best guess as to when you think the Star Trek sequel will be released?

J.J. Abrams:
I believe the next Star Trek film will be in 2012.

TrekMovie: Do you, or the studio, have a preference for Summer or Winter?

J.J. Abrams:
I don't. My instinct is that the studio wanted to take Star Trek, which was a winter film and move it to the summer. That is what they wanted to do already, so I would guess they would would thinking that this time too, but no date has been set.

The full interview, in which Abrams also talks more about Star Trek XII themes, can be found here.

I am saddened to hear that it won't be until 2012, but I guess not rushing it is a good idea.

Maybe in the meantime we can get another series?

I hate to harp on this topic but I've been watching TNG episodes while I jog on the treadmill...I miss having a series so much. The character development and in-depth stories just can't be matched in a movie.

Or two and a half. But at least that gives them plenty of time to make sure the script is solid.
