[EDIT: hmmm, that's weird. Why did this become a separate thread. This was in response to "The Magrathean"'s post]

"...because of a plothole in The City on the Edge of Forever, it turns out the Guardian is actually created by the same being who made the Doomsday Weapon, which means that if they interface then the Borg will pop out of a wormhole and wreak destruction in this timeline, thus causing Section 31 to blah blah blah blah blah..."

hehe ... Why stop there, it was starting to get really interesting. "Section 31 ... yes ... and ..."

;-)

I think some of the more recent Star Trek novels have suffered by creating continuity in rather unbelievable and artificial ways. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they have Uhura or Chekov living to age 140 or something and running around in various adventures in one of the relatively recent installments?

Yes, I believe that Chris Bennett said that they can do whatever they want, as long as they "put all the toys away" when the story is finished.

And to those asking for a "less continuity" set of books, just look at all the books printed before 2001 and you'll have plenty of disjointed, stand-alone stories. I'd rather not go back to that, thanks.

While I'm sure there may be references to other Trek literature, the JJ-verse stories will stand on their own.

With the new timeline, I hope the Trek novels get away from being overly reliant on continuity, as they had been prior to J.J.'s movie.

It's a brand new world, so let's actually boldly go where Trek hasn't gone before!
