Despite loving the new movie's enterprise design (and still being ambivalent about a few other design choices), that was one ugly ship.

Seems like the Romulan Empire, circa late 24th century's designs goes toward, "anarcho-arachno-ish"?

Seriously, Shinzon's ship in Nemesis was shitty, and so was the Narada. Give me ugly and functional, but this was just...tentacles!

I always happily integrated the Countdown plot point that the Narada was a hybrid of Romulan and Borg technology into the movie proper, even if it was never mentioned. It even had a very Borg-ish green glow. Works for me. Can't see many mining vessels looking like that, even in the 24th Century.
