Rumor Mill : William Shatner to Appear in Star Trek XII ?

Features

By GustavoLeao / 10:38, 1 April 2009 / Star Trek: Nemesis

No, it is not an April's Fool joke.

According to ABC Action News, Star Trek star William Shatner may have a role in Star Trek XII, the upcoming sequel to the new Star Trek movie, likely to be released in 2011. Here is an excerpt of the article.

According to the article sources, officials at Paramount Pictures are reportedly keen to get Shatner to be in Star Trek XII.

A source tells Britain's Daily Express newspaper, "It's well known Bill was disappointed not to get a cameo (in the 2009 film). But now Paramount Pictures has been given the go-ahead for a sequel and there are hopes he'll make a brief appearance."

"It's now felt it would be fitting finally to have Shatner back, Hopefully they can work something out," said another source.

This information is preliminary, of course, and entirely rumor.

The original reports can be found here and here.

William Shatner was a great man...but that was another life.

I am already against the whole notion of going back and partitioning the Trek HDD that trio of bastards have been allowed to do, adding Nimoy a put fishnet stockings on it to make it seem more legitimate would , of course, only lead the Shatner push-up bra. Neither of these guys would be necessary if they just concnetrated on a new approach centuries removed from where Trek's timelines were. I have no problem with Trek getting a facelift but the only thing worse than bringing back one has-been to urinate on a show he has never cared much for is bringing back an even worse one. I am happy with the contributions both Nimoy and Shatner have made to their repsective Trek characters but am quite content to call it enough because this is nothing more than a money move- if it does happen. How anyone can be happy about this possibility is beyond me.
Trek is moving backward and will probably never be able to get unstuck if this is successful. The only way to prevent this is for the movie to bomb.

Shatner was Kirk for OVER 40 YEARS!!!!!!!

WRONG! Shatner was Kirk for 3 seasons of live-action tv, a season of a Saturday morning cartoon, and 7 motion pictures. That's not over 40 continuous years of Shatner playing a character.

In reality, Shatner has the fewest hours in his role as all of other subsequent leading men/women of the sequel series. And, this is just my humble opinion, but I think we're going to see in this new movie that Kirk is much, MUCH more than just William Shatner.

Shatner rumors wouldn't start until this movie was out on DVD. There's only one way to stop the rumors, but no matter how I say it I'll sound like a jerk.

Can we please move on and leave Bill alone? James T. Kirk is a character that belongs to Paramount, or indeed the fabric of American culture. I don't need to have a Roger Moore cameo in the next Bond film. I don't need Adam West in the next Batman movie and I don't need Shatner in the next Trek film. He's dead. Move on.
