IESB.net has posted a rumor that Star Trek star Chris Pine, the new James T. Kirk, is being eyed as the title character in Warner Brothers' upcoming Green Lantern movie.

Pine would play Hal Jordan, a pilot who finds a powerful ring and its lantern-like battery when a spaceship crashes on Earth. Jordan is selected to succeed the craft's dying occupant as the next Green Lantern, a galactic guardian who is a member of an interstellar corps, the site reported, citing an anonymous source.

The movie has reportedly set up production offices and is on track to start shooting in September in Australia for the previously announced December 17, 2010 release date.

Pine is reportedly at the top of a list that also supposedly includes Terminator Salvation's Sam Worthington.

Could totally see it, but would still prefer Ben Browder. Especially if they could get Wayne Pygram as Sinestro.

If Pine wasn' already tied up with the Trek franchise, I could see it. But he's Kirk now, and unless Trek tanks and the franchise is buried, he's going to have enough work with that. If he plays Green Lantern then suddenly he'll be in a second franchise, and the potential is there for the two to conflict in terms of production, etc.

Actually I think Ben Browder of Stargate/Farscape would make a good Hal Jordan.

Nothing against Pine, he is a great actor, but I have always imagined Hal Jordan to be an older guy. David Boreanaz, who voiced Jordan in the Justice League New Frontier animated movie, would be perfect in the role.
