Now THAT'S what was missing from that trailer! That's the perfect end, with Nimoy there, saying that classic line. I kept looking for Nimoy the first time they released this, and was a little disappointed that they didn't put him in.

A deliberate move on their part, just so they could keep feeding us new "revelations" down the line, maybe? Either way, I'm definitely excited to see this movie.

A cold chill runs up my spine - and not in a good way | Report this post to moderator

This trailer does not encourage me that Nimoy's role will resolve the continuity issues. It only underscores that the bugs in the treatments and drafts that I have seen (that more or less resolve the continuity issues with the old Berman/Braga self-contradictory retrocon) were not resolved.

SPOILERS ALERT

Yeah, Kirk's father dies in 2233, days before Kirk is born - and some Romulans from the TNG era inadvertently introduce technology from that era into Trek's past - and that throws the timeline out of whack a bit. Neither of these things explain in the Trek universe why Kirk is a different man (I mean it's not like a different sperm fertilized the egg or something because Kirk's mother and father didn't conceive in quite the right way nine months earlier). Why McCoy and Spock who were born years before the point of divergence are different people. Why Pike is different. Why Sulu went from being Japanese to Korean. Why Uhura is different. Why Chekov is different.

END OF SPOILERS

I mean come 'on folks, suspension of disbelief is one thing - but this is supposed to be air tight. Much more air tight than the crap treatments and scripts I read a couple months before the writers' strike. This is supposed to blend seamlessly with "The Cage" and "Where No Man Has Gone Before". Nothing that I have seen so far concurs with that assessment.

Mr. Nimoy came out of retirement to do this. He must have felt legacy's call. If you can't geek out to a high def picture of Nimoy as Spock one last time, you aren't worth your weight in tribbles!

He was (and always shall be) saying LLAP to all of us in that final scene of his.

Klingons... | Report this post to moderator

Anyone pause and check out the Klingons that Nero takes on? They seem a little different. Perhaps it's the way that quicktime paused, but they look very similar to the Klingons of TMP. Any thoughts?

MAKE THIS THE THEATRICAL TRAILER!! | Report this post to moderator
By: Bucky (Odo's file, contact) @ 17:40:13 on Nov 25, 2008

It's the exact same trailer, but this has soooo much more of a powerful ending compared to Nero's line. Which is good, but not "trailer ending" good - Nimoy Spock is how you end a freakin trailer.

nero scene | Report this post to moderator

they should just omit the nero scene "the wait is over" or make a new one all together with this new trailer because the "wait", is not over, so to speak, and it just seems out of place compared to the first released 2nd trailer.

Let's hear it for viral marketing!

The trailer acts like it downloads but all I end up with is a blank white screen.

I have Quicktime and Windows Media Player 11.

Anybody got any ideas?

Giving an exclusive trailer to AICN?!

It's hosted direct by Paramount and everything!

Also weird that it's the exact same trailer but with a bit of Nimoy - did they bottle showing him in the released version or maybe saving him up? All very odd. But cool :P

Love the line, although I did like Nero's 'The wait is over' at the end in the original. :)
