WOW! Already pissing my pants with excitement. The fact that this movie also has more action then the average trek movie and has time travel is beyond excitement for me. Being a Star Trek fan since I was 4 years old (21 years ago) I know all there is to know about Trek and I can tell you I like what I see. Being a Trekker the cannon is important to me, as much as real life history is and it seems like this movie will fit into the cannon quite nicely with a hint of imagination and a dash of faith. Mr Abrams I tip my hat to you. The few teaser photos we have seen have shown us just enough to get excited but not really give anything away. I love the uniforms, the bridge looks glorious, the characters appearance fits in. I am so excited and satisfied I am left without words. I can watch Star Trek forever so I would have loved a two and a half hour movie, but I understand why the movies is 2 hours....I am still happy with two hours. I can't wait for the trailer.

I KNOW I'M BEING PICKY BUT THOSE CHARACTERS WERE A SMALL BUT SIGNIFICANT PART OF TREK LORE AND I WOULD HAVE FELT A LITTLE BETTER IF THEY WERE AT LEAST MENTIONED AT THIS POINT.
ALSO CHEKOV WASN'T EVEN INTRODUCED TIL SEASON 2. WHY IS HER THERE?
WELL I HAVE FAITH....BUT TO QUOTE CHANCELLOR GORKON...."IF THERE IS TO BE A BRAVE NEW WORLD OUR GENERATION IS GOING TO HAVE THE HARDEST TIME LIVING IN IT."
This revised bridge design doesn't follow the TOS look, but it does capture the classic genre feel. It appears Abrams understands that virtually anything of the Forbidden Planet ilk will be agreeable to most sci-fi fans, and to any audience with a sense of cinematic fun.

The Official Ubuntu Book ++ Live DVD
This looks to be a visually stunning film. I would expect no less.
The Cast:
Right now I do have a problem with seeing these actors in those oh so familiar roles. Obviously it would be difficult to find dead ringers for the original actors so I'm not to concerned with this right now. It will be their performance and how they bring these characters to life that will ,make or break it for me. I do expect these actors to give their own take on the characters and not do a complete imitation.
The Uniforms:
I do like them. They did a good job of updating the TOS uniforms we are familiar with. However, they are not in keeping the pilots' uniforms which were muted in color (not to mention they didn't have red uniform then). I can understand Abrams wanting to use the more iconic TOS uniform rather than the pilots' so I will overlook that small nitpick.
The Bridge:
First off, I love it. It's stunning. However, it seems such a departure for a prequel especially when you consider the job they did on the uniforms. I expected the same configuration with an updated look. The original bridge from the pilots is very dated. This almost lead me to believe we are looking at a future Enterprise bridge.
Before yesterday, I was very apathetic about this movie. I, now, feel very excited because of what I have seen. I am eager to find out more about this film and how all this will play out.
USS Enterprise full shot and Nimoy as Spock! :)
I'm seeing similarities :P
WHAT HAPPENED TO GARY MITCHELL????? AND WHY IS HE BEING ERASED ???? HE WAS KIRKS BEST FRIEND, INTRODUCED HIM NTO CAROL MARCUS!! KIRK REQUESTED HIM!!!
ALSO ARE WE SUPPOSED TO FORGET THAT SPOCK SERVED WITH PIKE FOR 11 YEARS!!! SULU WAS NOT THE HELMSMAN ORIGINALLY, LEE KELSO WAS!!!
I GUESS I NEED THE VULCAN MEMORY ERASER....
You know, I can't help but feel a bit sorry for J.J. Abrams. Allow me to elaborate...
The Star Trek franchise has been in a state of chaos. First, Star Trek: Nemesis tanks at the box office (and I still think it didn't deserve all the negativity it received), then Enterprise is cancelled due to poor ratings and negative fan response. Rick Berman and Brannon Braga are practically chased out by way of flaming torch and pitchfork (and good riddance to 'em), and for the first time in many years, there's no regular Trek presence on the airwaves, save for repeats on Spike TV and G4.
So, J.J. Abrams decides to take a shot at it, gathers his crew of writers and producers, and takes Star Trek under his wing. And, in a move that I feel required brass cajones of considerable weight and size, he decides to include prequel elements to his movie, featuring a re-cast Kirk, Spock, McCoy, and the rest of the gang.
I'm sure that at the time he first took this yolk upon his shoulders, Abrams had only an inkling of an idea of what he was up against, and just how powerful a force of resistance they'd turn out to be. I am, of course, speaking about Star Trek fans, the most stubborn, demanding, and unforgiving fanbase of any genre of film or television. From the casting to the design of the Enterprise (inside and out) to the uniforms, the fans are all over him like a pack of dogs on a three-legged cat. And, let's not forget the haranguing he's receiving over having the nerve to not squeeze in William Shatner as the older Kirk, even though there's really no reason whatsoever for him to be in the movie.
I have to give J.J. props for having the courage to bring his vision of Star Trek to the screen, and I feel that he's had the fans in mind from the start. He knows what he's facing if he fails them, but at the same time, he's not afraid to try new things and stretch the boundaries a little. Sadly, he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Fans will whine and complain if he puts something in that doesn't fit, and they'll moan and bellyache if he takes out something that could fit but doesn't have to. Talk about an uphill battle.
Albatrossprey couldn't have said it better in his post on this thread. The fact that people are ready and willing to write this movie off solely on what they see in a few promotional photos shows just how narrow-minded and utterly inflexible some Star Trek fans can be.
Now, I'm by no means an innocent bystander here. I'm watching the evolution of this production with just as much of an eagle-eye as the rest of the fans. But, i'd like to think I'm a little more flexible and forgiving than the rest.
Hats off to you, J.J. Abrams, you poor S.O.B. You're a long-tailed cat in a room full of occupied rocking chairs, but you're brave enough to weave your way through it. I salute ya.
I like the look a lot. Great color palette.
It's hard to look at the first photo and not immediately think "spoof!" with both Shaun of the Dead and Harold (sans Kumar) wearing Starfleet uniforms in the background.

I am grateful to see the new cast, but I would have liked it even more to see the beloved Dr. Randy Pausch in his Star Trek uniform.
His cameo would be worth the price of admission alone, IMO.
I like what I see here. The uniforms, in a physical sense, work with what was eventually introduced in ST: TMP and it's easy to imagine this bridge proceeding the bridge in TMP.
They've done their homework, they've delivered for fans of TOS and I have no doubt that what I'm going to see is not a re-boot but a revisitation of the original themes and characters that made Star Trek great.
Welcome back, Star Trek.
(posted in response to Gustavo but (again) it came up as a new thread)
I don't think this has anything to do with a reboot. All these things are explained by a change in the timeline, I'm sure.
I love the bridgeshot, bright, clean, white, with just enough colour, lots of detail and shiny lights. Superb!
The only thing I still haven't really understood is what are these kids doing on the bridge? They are kids right?
Wonderful pics! No criticism here whatsoever. Looks great! Love the bridge shot in particular, and the ice cave. Beautiful!
I find it childish and a little sad that so many are already condemning the new movie on the basis of a handful of images. Without giving the film a chance, they've already made up their minds that it will be awful simply because they don't like the bridge (the little they've seen of it), they don't like the uniforms, and they don't like the actors who, by and large, no one has seen act before, and could well turn out to be immensely talented. Regardless of how well they play their roles, Pine et al. are predestined to be terrible because the naysayers have already made up their minds, based on meagre scraps of released material. And sadly, since the naysayers have larger mouths than the rest of us and are clearly masters in the field of Trek lore who have the right to say no, Trek should not change, not modernise, not adapt to keep in touch with a twenty-first-century audience, their opinions are the ones that compose yet another Trek movie's pre-emptive death warrant.
I find it hard to understand why a great number of people can't grasp the concept that Trek has to evolve to survive. I'm a big fan of continuity, because it helps keep the massive universe that is Star Trek consistent, but considering the number of times Trek has contradicted itself, the fact that the uniforms didn't become red, blue, and gold until after the beginning of TOS is petty. The departmental colours have come to embody Starfleet uniforms, and to use the all-round mustard-coloured uniforms of "Where No Man Has Gone Before" in a movie of this magnitude would be a major mistake, both aesthetically and by failing to present the well-known Star Trek image that is embedded in the public consciousness.
This movie is NOT a Trek fan-wank: minor details have obviously been altered to make the movie look better in terms of modernity and to attract a new audience that Star Trek vitally needs. If this makes you want to cry yourself to sleep or rant and rave about how Abrams has clearly bastardised the Trek canon, then you really should give yourself a reality check and come to understand that Trek must visually rework itself to avoid a dated appearance and to keep it fresh and interesting. A new, sleeker bridge is a must in order to preserve Trek's futuristic image: most people's laptops look more impressive than the duotronic dials on the bridge of TOS's Enterprise, and, whether you like it or not, new, shiny screens are essential unless if you want this movie to be anything more than a walk down memory lane for diehard fans, who, by being so inflexible, are suffocating the thing they claim to treasure.
We all love TOS, and we'll never forget the bridge of the original 1701 - but at the same time, do we want more, engaging Trek, or do we want to lay it to rest? If the former, then try to practice what Trek has attempted to teach you: to embrace change, or at least to weight up the benefits of change in a rational manner, and to understand why such change is occurring. If the latter, then it's time to take a step back: raise your hands, say "This isn't what I wanted", and leave it alone. Let those of us who want to enjoy the new movie do so without a running critique on minutiae such as how an indicator light on the aft port auxiliary bridge console is red when it should be blue.
Everyone is being quizzical about the redesigned Enterprise bridge. What if this is NOT the Enterprise Enterprise, but rather a mock-up at Star Fleet Academy and this is the "Kobayashi Maru." We do know that that test figures into the beginning of the movie.
I would explain Kirk in the center chair (is it even center?)and his blackness. Also, it could explain Spock's reaction to Kirk (as in, "You cheat" type of thing) in the other photo. And to answer the first question: his hurt hand/face could have been from his last attempt at solving the unsolvable puzzle.
GRANTED...this could be all wrong and it IS the Big E.
Just a thought.
BTW, I am a huge continuity fan..and I have NO problem with anything I see here. Love it. Looks great. If you really have to dump on these photos, please don't pretend any longer that there was ANYTHING J.J. could have done to please you. You were poisoned from the first word of the new movie. Just admit it and step aside please as the Trek Train passes you by.
UPDATE!!!...I was wrong. Just read this little quote from the author of the script, and call me crazy, but I think he knows the plot.
"Here’s what Lindelof had to say about what Trek fans can take away from the photo:
- The set you see in the photo is the bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise, and not a training room.
- When asked why Kirk was wearing black instead of the standard yellow captain’s shirt, Lindelof said that the black uniform is “significant” to the story surrounding this scene."
SO THAT'S THAT. IT'S THE BIG E ALRIGHT.
Against a more modernized background like the new bridge, the old-style uniforms somehow seem simplistic and hokey. It's a nice nod to TOS, though I wonder why they were kept so secret, since they don't seem to have changed much.
Is it just me, or does the way Pine's sitting in the captain's chair seem Shatneresque?
--------
Jesus Saves... no one dares charge him full price
Based on what's been revealed there is little to no consistency. In Pike's time, hell even in "Where No Man Has Gone Before", the uniforms weren't yet split into gold, red, and blue - there was just gold and blue. I understand this is essentially a reboot (a kick in Star Trek's balls), but those bastard producers said that it would be a 'reset' in the chronology of what has taken place. That means they need to keep some consistency up to a point, which seems to have already been blown out the airlock.
Secondly, what the hell are the character identity thieves, who have stolen the names of Uhura (now referred to as U Hore), Chekov (Jerkov) and Sulu (Bluyou) doing in the movie much less the uniforms? In the original series Kirk was about thirty five when he took command of Enterprise. The real Chekov was only 22 when he joined the crew. There's a huge age discrepancy!! Those characters shouldn't be in the acedemy at all.
Consistency and canon aside, Star Trek is about moving forward, not going back. Berman and Braga at least understood this by originally naming their prequel "Enterprise" (and omitting Star Trek), which is what it will always be in my mind. The beauty is the creation of an evolution from "Enterprise" to "Star Trek" to "Star Trek: TNG" and so forth. I said goodbye to Kirk and his crew with "The Undiscovered Country". That crew signed off. This newer movie's concept sucks and I will except "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier" as a candidate for Star Trek long before I ever except Abrams' crap. If you watch it, please at least illegally download it so that Paramount won't make any profit and they can't make another. Maybe then someone else can come along who actually understands Star Trek.

"This rudderless world is not shaped by vague metaphysical forces. It is not God who kills the children. Not Fate that butchers them or Destiny that feeds them to dogs. It's us. Only us."
I'm hoping they can clean up the look of those ears and baldcap (in the back of Bana's head) in postproduction. I'm surprised they released this photo. He looks a little fake.
I have to say...it doesn't feel like the enterprise bridge. It that 100% confirmed? It looks more like a cadet training exercise, not the formal bridge. Why is Kirk in the chair? It's Pike's Enterprise, right?
I'm betting Kirk is in black because he's not formally a Starfleet member or cadet. I bet he'll JOIN Starfleet during or at the end of the movie, but that he's somehow a "troubled" but "genius" youth, perhaps accompanying his dad onto the Enterprise...but then naturally assuming a leadership role and growing to see the crew as comrades, not tin soldiers. Shades of B'Elanna's relationship with Harry Kim in the pilot of Voyager. It's just a hunch.
The angry Spock attacking Kirk seems ill advised. Maybe it's a way of highlighting Spock struggling for control of his human emotions, but if it really IS Spock losing control for a moment, it sort of shades some of those subsequent TOS scenes with Kirk needling Spock about his lack of feelings as kind of bully-ish, as if he's trying to get a rise out of Spock. I would think that Kirk only needles Spock because he's NEVER seen him emote, not because he's seen him in a rage and he's poking a sleeping bear for entertainment. I'm jumping to a lot of conclusions based on a picture, but I just hope that these characters feel like Kirk and Spock, etc, and I can accept it as really "them" after the first 20 minutes of the movie and just enjoy a new adventure with some of my oldest friends.

I don't understand why people are complaining again about this. These few pictures have allayed any concerns I had about this movie up until now. It isn't a rehashing of the Original, where we must be beholden to the way everything looked on a TV budget in the 1960's. It would look stupid if they did that.
As for those of you who are complaining about Kirk in black...
Has it not occurred to you that maybe all of these images are taken from a specific time frame in the movie? One where Kirk for some reason has lost his tunic? It wouldn't be the first time it has happened to a Star Trek character. Or maybe you're just all looking for a reason to dump on this movie because your god, William Shatner, didn't make it in. I don't know.
Either way, quit whining. The movie looks amazing. More than I could have hoped for.

Ridiculously cool.
Love the look of it. The Bridge looks like a true nerve center of the ship... more of what a 23rd century ship should look like. I'm reminded of how busy Nicholas Meyer's revamped ST TMP bridge set fro ST II, that had much more activity, sounds, and visuals. I haven't been wowed by a Bridge set since then. Today has given me a lot of faith in this movie. I didn't want a retread, and the look of the Bridge and the characters alone have given me a good feeling. It will all be for naught if the story sucks, but for now I feel good about it. Can't wait for the trailer!

Is this a genuine picture of the starship USS KELVIN? It was posted on Flickr, supposedly as shown on ET.
Can anyone confirm? The other websites have the close-up of the KELVIN under attack.
Ok, I'm a long time observer of this website and I happen to be one of the people that would love a complete reboot. However, the look of this bridge has not gone far enough. My God it's the 23rd century and their still using flat screens! The bridge color scheme looks like a tribute to Apple and the shirts look like athletic jerseys purchased at the local Sports Authority. When I see the new Trek I want to be wowed. I want to be that little kid who could do nothing but dream of the rebuilt enterprise from The Motion Picture. Yeah, I know that the story and relationship among the big three and fab four will make or break this picture but, by God, don't forget that it needs to look futuristic beyond our wildest dreams.
That bridge of what we can see looks more like the Excelsior bridge than the TOS bridge. TOS bridge didn't have any standing stations nor stations to the rear. I thought this was supposed to be an updated yet match to the original. That other ship looks like a TOS movie era ship with the color and different fonts of the nomenculture shown. Look forward to more.
We've had plenty of time, each of us, to formulate some cloudy idea in our heads of what this film will look like. The truth can't be better than what us optimists imagine, and it can't be worse than the nay-sayers will try to spin it.
So here are the first FEW stills we have of the movie. I'm impressed with the 2001-style cinematography of the interiors. The subtle nods to kitsch, like the miniskirt and the funny joysticks on her station. I love the displays! No more Okudagrams (God bless them). Thank God we've moved past the nineties.
The EW shot of Spock is weird, so I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to either photoshopping to tweak the weirdness factor, or just a bad photo of him in makeup (the space between his eye and his brows here isn't replicated in earlier photos, nor in these from the movie itself.
Nero is what it is at this point. No opinion.
The ice crash is great because Kirk has that backpack and all, it looks like technology that's an extension of today's military.
On his black uniform. Serves 3 purposes: 1. to visually set the Kirk character apart; he’s exceptional. 2. perhaps he's not yet attained the rank which requires the famous gold tunic. 3. To preserve suspense until later in the movie when he will finally be revealed in the famous gold tunic.
Most of this is neither here nor there at this point. It looks solid. It looks like a departure. It looks like a remake of the classic show of the 60's. So far, mission accomplished. But lets wait for the trailer next month!!

Why is Kirk in black wtf?? no Shat and now they put Kirk in black?? Where is his musterd tunic? Is he just to blend into the backround? J.J is not showing any love to the Kirk character and I am sad. I wanted to be Kirk so bad as a kid, hell I still want to be him. It feels like they are not making a moive of our beloved star trek but a "hey look at crapy heroes guy play Spock" film. I don't want any gimicks. I want a good film that is about the big 3 (Kirk, McCoy, & Spock)and the Fab 4 (Sulu, Uhura, Scotty, & Chekov) as fun filler. What are your thoughts?
How long until some dipshit complains about the women's uniform being short-sleeved? ;-)
On the whole, I am VERY impressed with these pictures. May feels so fucking far away. Hell...NOVEMBER (and the release of the trailer) feels really far away.

I'm really liking these images a lot. Love the production design, love the costumes.
And is it just me or is Pine assuming a classic Kirkian pose in the command chair on the bridge?
Good stuff all around; can't wait to see the trailer so that we can see them move and hear what they sound like.
We go from practically nothing to a small netsplosion of images! Time to change my undies!
Interesting that escape pod type thing has NCC 1701 on it.
The bridge looks...bright, like I'd get dizzy on it!
The group shot of them looking at something looks like they're on the bridge facing the back. The viewscreen behind them looks like it has the warp speed on it, like a speedometer.
I'm guessing some of the older ships look like the Kelvin and the newer ones like the Enterprise (I'm assuming) are more metallic and shinier.

Ok, I think I am impressed with the bridge (what we can see of it). I really like the Captain's chair, very much a wink to the original. Kirk almost gets lost in it as it is so big.
