Rod Roddenberry Praises J.J. Abrams, Says Director Will Stay True to Canon

SyFy Portal posted a new interview with Eugene "Rod" Roddenberry Jr, son of late Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, in which he talks about his visit to the new Star Trek movie set and his meeting with director J.J. Abrams. Here are few excerpts from the article.

"I met with J.J. Abrams, but I didn't really see any of the main product," Roddenberry said, likely visiting when Abrams was shooting secondary shots and the like following principal photography. "What I did see, it looked great. The costumes, acting, sets."

"J.J. is such a regular guy, and seems so much like a fan because he gets it," Roddenberry said. "While he has to work the way you have to work in Hollywood and balance what the studio wants, he's really on the side of the fans. He really tries to stay true of the continuity and stay true to canon."

The full interview, in which Roddenberry also talks about his documentary Trek Nation, can be found here.

And not only are you shitting on Eugene, but you're shitting on Gene Roddenberry. Apparantly trolling isn't just one of those passing fads....but I have to admit it was pretty funny. lol

Actually, Gene Roddenberry was little more than a "creative conmsultant" on the films after Motion Picture, and was essentially given the "Executive Producer" credit as an honorary title. He would be given scripts and allowed to make his notes on them, but he never liked anything that was put on screen after the first film, and continually pushed the "original crew timewarping to prevent the JFK assasination" plot. So though he did help launch Next Generation in 1987, most of Star Trek after the early 80's developed on its own without his direction. That is not "shitting" on anyone sir, that is fact.. and like Kirk's death, some of you guys have real trouble accepting fact.

Hey Rod, a message from your father from beyond. - "Get a job."

HAHAHA, sooo true. Even his dad didn't really matter to the franchise beyond the first season of TNG and now his son thinks he has to put his "stamp of approval" on it? Please... where's Majel? At least she's been coherent most of the time.

genuinely, that does aliviate(sp) some (for lack of a better word) fears i had.

to have junior give his seal of approval i think makes it easier to accept, and not really worry about it.
