Maureen Ryan, a.k.a The Watcher at the Chicago Tribune, had an interview with Ronald D. Moore about Battlestar Galactica that she'll print next month -- however she has posted the part of their chat that touches upon Moore's visit to the Star Trek XI set. No spoilers. Wee snippet...
MR: "Did you think Paramount did the right thing by going outside the 'Trek' family, so to speak, for this film?"
RDM: "Absolutely. I think that was a very smart decision ... I think it's akin to when they brought in Harve Bennett to [write the second 'Star Trek' movie,] 'The Wrath of Khan' ... Bennett, who had no connection to the show, and [director Nicholas] Meyer, who had never seen the show, and they reinvented it. They started over. They went at the costumes differently, the storytelling, the vibe of it, the style of story that they were going to do. They rescued the whole franchise. 'Wrath of Khan' makes all the subsequent 'Star Trek' projects possible."

Star Trek: Conquest (PS2 | Wii)
And because of that, and the save Kirk/OGAM parallel, there still is no excuse for failure to include Shatner. A waste.
Filming is proceeding today at California State University, Northridge, which is a stand-in for Starfleet Academy. The main library, featured in the movie Sky High, has been redressed and there are two very large blue screens to each side of the front plaza. A young Kirk and Spock are filmed walking down the front steps as over a hundred extras mill about in Starfleet Academy red. Alien academy members are also visible. Officers are in grey uniforms.
There is a futuristic kiosk next to one of three partial towers at the front of the plaza.
Visible is a futuristic three-wheeled vehicle crossing east-west and west-east across the plaza.

The supposed leaked plots a few months ago were the exact plot of the fan film OGAM. Time travel may have nothing to do with the real movie.
It still seems likely, but it better not be a Kill KIrk's mother plot. Here's hoping it is a Romulan/Vulcan reunification alternate universe reboot. :)
Another possible spoiler: Does Sulu get his sword-swishing ass handed to him by some baddie with a bigger blade?
The Finer Dandy blog attended the Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay screening, which was followed by a Q&A with John Cho. Dandy reports, "Cho was sporting some sort of ace bandage or cast on his right arm, and he admitted to the audience that he got an injury on the set of Star Trek."
What a wuss, John. ;-)
Gotta be tough. Like Katee Sackhoff in that bloody-nose-of-the-week BSG series.
Last Thursday, Sackhoff sat for a chat on The Hour, where she describes TNG as "fantastic". The complete interview video can be eyed at CBC.ca (yeah, that's in The Great White North, eh).
Wearing the same B&W outfit, Sackhoff sashayed over to MTV Canada. During their "Who Would You Do?" gag segment, Katee said she'd shag Commander Data rather than Spock, because the tinman "runs on batteries". Toaster lover! And Katee would sooner do Six (Tricia Helfer) than Boomer (Grace Park) on BSG, because IRL they share a love of motorbikes. Kick start the streaming video at MTV.ca.

TOS Communicator Replica
Plot details indeed! Those spoilers basically ruined the movie for me. Now that we know EXACTLY what happens, why even bother going to see it now?
I will still go, but only to see the Bill Shatner easter egg cameo. (It's a cameo because he's only on screen for 127 minutes, and only gets to take his shirt off twice.)

"...and a class 2 comet, Wow, this is certainly worthy of our attention."

"A comet! Drop us out of warp, we'll study it for a few weeks, what do you think Trip?"
