Star Trek producer/director J.J. Abrams was a guest of The Adam Corolla Show on Thursday morning to talk about his new production Cloverfield and his upcoming Star Trek movie. Here are few excerpts from the 5-minute interview.
Regarding why William Shatner was not cast as an older James T. Kirk in the Star Trek prequel, Abrams said "Cmon, Shatner is an icon, he is an amazing guy, I really wanted to put him in the movie, like I put Leonard Nimoy in. The truth is that Shatner died, his character died in the movie [Generations], he shot the scene in that movie in which Kirk dies. If I put him in... I just saying it was tricky."
"The reason I am doing this movie is because the script is great." he said "You don't have to know a thing about Star Trek to see this movie, get on board and love the characters. We are making it for the fans on the one hand, but the truth is that we are making this movie for people who don't know a thing about Star Trek."
