First Photos of the U.S.S. Titan Model from Star Trek The Tour

Features

By GustavoLeao / 15:02, 18 January 2008 / General Star Trek

Sean Tourangeau, designer of the Luna Class U.S.S. Titan, has posted at the TrekBBS some photos of the physical model of the starship which will show at Star Trek The Tour.

According to Pocket Book novels, the U.S.S. Titan NCC-80102 was a Federation starship, Luna-class, launched in 2379 under the command of Captain William T. Riker. Commander Deanna Troi is the ship's counselor, while the First officer is Commander Christine Vale. Commander Tuvok (formely from the starship Voyager) is the second officer and tactical officer.

Star Trek The Tour features an 4-minute short movie featuring a Klingon attack on the Titan, starring Wil Wheaton as Lt. Commander Wesley Crusher and Tim Russ as Commander Tuvok.

Accoring to the Titan novels, following the U.S.S Voyager return to Earth, Tuvok worked for Starfleet Intelligence within Romulan space at the time of the Shinzon uprising, and was later rescued from imprisonment by the Titan crew, which he joined when their previous tactical officer became comatose as a result of battle. After Titan was briefly lost in the Smaller Magellanic Cloud, Tuvok's wife, T'Pel, came to live aboard the ship.

Jonathan Frakes
as Titan's Captain Riker and Marina Sirtis as Deanna Troi will not be appearing in this Star Trek Titan short movie.

The character of Wesley Crusher does not appear in the Titan novels, but appear in the 4-minute movie, now promoted to the Assistant Chief Engineer of the Titan.

It was a contest design win.... | Report this post to moderator

I think he did a great job. I was going to do the contest but just never did. The rules were set to what standards the ship had to look similar to. I thought he did a great job the ship. Also, to have a sweet model made after it, I hope he gets that model or a copy of it. Don't start bashing the design till you read the rules of the design. Here is a part of the rules from the web page rules.

The Ship:
U.S.S. Titan, NCC-80102, Luna-class. The Titan is a midsize Starfleet vessel, approximately 450 meters in length (larger than the U.S.S. Voyager, smaller than the Enterprise-D), with a crew complement of 350. Titan's hull configuration is comparable to other established Starfleet vessels.

U.S.S. Voyager, approximately 344 meters

U.S.S. Enterprise-D, Approximately 642 meters

The Luna-class is Starfleet's newest-generation long-range explorer, a starship not built specifically for combat, but like the Constitution-class of the previous century, a vessel designed for a long-term multipurpose mission into uncharted space. Equipped with conventional tactical systems (deflector shields; phasers; quantum torpedoes), Titan also boasts state-of-the-art propulsion and cutting-edge scientific equipment, as well as being a testbed for experimental science tech not yet available on other classes.

The Titan is manned by the most varied multispecies crew in Starfleet history, with humans taking up less than 15% of the 350-member crew. The diversity of the crew is intended to facilitate stories that will explore the ways that beings of different cultures, biologies, psychologies, and physical appearances learn how to work together, or fail to, depending on the circumstances they encounter. Titan has eight shuttlecraft of various sizes.

Hmm...its ugly! | Report this post to moderator

Just like most fanboy or 24th century kit bashes, this version of the Titan is ugly. Must I quote the great General Zod:
"So morbid. A sentimental (tribute) to a (style) long since vanished. No style at all."

Turning engine nacelles upside down and moving their locations does not a new ship class make. There's more to designing starships than kit bashing. The folks who produced TNG HAD to do this because of budgetary reasons, but was the Excelsior, the next generation of starships, a kit bash of the refit Enterprise? Cmon, people, where's your originality?!!?!

Canon Fodder | Report this post to moderator

Wow, this is one of those blurry lines eh?

Supposedly if it's not seen on screen it's not canon.
This was the winner of a design contest from a book company (Pocket or S&S) and has only been on book covers until now.

There's a very slight possibility the Titan will need to be shown on a future movie or TV show. If it is, you'd think they'd almost have to go with this design, though technically TPTB could come up with any other design they want to.
