Patrick Stewart Wants to Guest Star in Doctor Who

By GustavoLeao / 08:26, 26 September 2007 / People

According to This is North Scotland, former TNG star Patrick Stewart has revealed he would love to be asked to play a role in hit british sci-fi series Doctor Who.

The 67-year-old actor, who is currently playing Macbeth at London's Gielgud Theatre, said he was a fan of the long-running time travelling show, but was sad he had never been involved.

"I have been (a fan) actually yes, and deeply dismayed that I was never asked to be in it! I think it's a terrific series," he said.

According to My Park Magazine, Stewart will perform once again for the Royal Shakespeare Company next year in a production of Hamlet. Stewart will be Claudius, the villainous uncle of Prince Hamlet, while the title role will be played by David Tennant, the current incarnation of Doctor Who.

The full interview is here.

The first thing that went through my mind when I heard this was what if Patrick Stewart got a guest role in Doctor Who... as Captain Picard?

Both series have dealt with parallel universes in the past so that's no problem. Getting Paramount to agree for a reasonable price is a much greater problem, but I'd love to see the BBC at least try.

Trivia: Patrick Stewart was on the guest-star shortlist for the role of Prof. Watson in Tom Baker's Doctor Who "The Hand Of Fear" (1976), and for The Castellan in Peter Davison's Doctor Who "Arc Of Infinity" (1983).

I have a suggestion... | Report this post to moderator

My suggestion is at the bottom of the comment, but anyways...
I would LOVE to see one of my favorite captains in Doctor Who. I wasn't thinking of an eleventh doctor, though. I was thinking of a villain or companion. He should have been the Master in the episode Utopia, that would have been excellent. But I guess it's too late for that.
There's a disturbing shortage of male companions in Doctor Who, and an older person would help. Captain Jack is the only guy I know of, and he's 'good-looking'. Most of the Doctor's companions that I've seen are young and good-looking, (not to say that Stewart wouldn't be good-looking) so we could use a deviation, and I think that it would be great to have an American and British cult joined. A geek's dream come true!
My suggestion is... GET STARGATE IN THERE TOO!
They have to get Michael Shanks or Amanda Tapping in that episode, too, so they'll have my three loves. The SGC, the Federation, and the TARDIS, each with a representative.
You can't get better than that.

And a mini reply to the post about Rassilon:
Go watch the episode Utopia for season 3 of Doctor Who. And no spoilers from anyone here who's already seen the end of it, please. I only saw the first part/episode.

If he ever does appear on Who... | Report this post to moderator

...he should play Rassilon, the man who created Time Lord society and time travel.

I know that Rassilon has been dead thousands, if not millions of years and that ALL of the Time Lords except for the Doctor have been wiped out, but ummm...make it so?

Now THAT would be awesome! We can expect that an invite from the BBC will soon be forthcoming.

IMHO Doctor Who Series 2 is the best contemporary science fiction of either the big or small screen. The 21st century sets and special effects are just what this great series has needed all along. It's so nice to see the recent BBC productions with Hollywood production values (though I miss the charm and quaintness of vintage BBC.) Anyway, it's nice that Doctor Who is no longer a synonym for cheeseball special effects.

Our family liked Series 1 well enough but many eps had a demented twist that I didn't like for my kids to see (though they were probably adored by the 40 year old virgin fanboys.) Doctor Who is supposed to be a children's programme, and I gather the Brits are quite amused by its adult following here in the USA.

Wouldnt it be fun if Patrick Stewart could be the next regeneration of the Doctor? Actually, probably not. The Doctor is supposed to have a silly side, and I've only seen Jean-Luc play serious, dignified roles. Besides, at 67, he's even older than William Hartnell, who was done playing the Doctor before age 60.

GET A LIFE,
will you people? I mean, for crying out loud, it's just a TV show!.... You've turned an enjoyable little job, that I did as a lark for a few years, into a COLOSSAL WASTE OF TIME! -- William Shatner on Saturday Night Live (1986)
