The STAR TREK family has lost another today as news that actor Brock Peters has died at age 78. The actor who endeared himself to TREK fans as 'Admiral Cartwright' in STAR TREK IV: THE VOYAGE HOME and again in a stunning twist in THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY, had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer earlier this year.

Peters also played 'Joseph Sisko', father of Avery Brooks' character on STAR TREK: DEEP SPACE NINE. Peters appeared in several episodes as the Louisiana chef and restauranteur. Peters, who was born George Fisher in 1927, is perhaps best known for his role as 'Tom Robinson', a man falsely accused of rape in TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD (1962). Recounting co-star Gregory Peck from that film, Peters once remarked that it was the only time he had ever received a welcome call from a fellow actor after earning the role in a production.

Throughout a career that began in the 1950s, Peters worked alongside the likes of Sidney Poitier, Dorothy Dandridge, Harry Belafonte, and Sammy Davis, Jr. Accolades include a Tony Award for the play LOST IN THE STARS.

Peters also provided the voice for 'General Mi'Qogh' in the recent game STAR TREK: STARFLEET COMMAND III, according to TrekToday. More in CNN's obituary. Learn more about Brock Peters at the Wikipedia.

TrekWeb speaks for fans everywhere when we say Peters will be missed and we were all fortunate to have witnessed his talents in the realm of STAR TREK.

Shouldn't you have reversed it and said that he endeared himself to Trek fans as Sisko's dad and not Cartwright?

A friend had been on a Trek convention several years ago and got to meet Brock Peters. My friend said he was very nice and grateful for the fans who watched his work on Trek, Mockingbird and his other work.

I can't imagine another actor playing Ben Sisko's father . . . he was perfect for the role. Thank you Brock for your contributions to the Trek universe.

Wow, this is really sad. I definitely recommend checking out the Star Wars Radio Series. Peters is very good in them as Darth Vader, especially with the sometimes exposition-heavy dialogue.

that he played Tom Robinson. I had an apalling english teacher at school, but largely due to Mr Peters and Greg Peck, that film is the only film associated with the books we were forced to read in english, that I can still hapilly watch.
