ENT's Anthony Montgomery Talks Shop on SHARON OSBOURNE Show - Photos and Transcript

By Steve Krutzler / 09:09, 11 January 2004 / People

STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE actor Anthony Montgomery ('Travis Mayweather') appeared on THE SHARON OSBOURNE SHOW last week to discuss his career and other topics. The actor revealed that he had actually auditioned for a role on VOYAGER before landing the NX-01 gig.

"I actually auditioned for Voyager, the series right before ours, two years ago," he said on the show, according to a transcript that has been made available. "And I did not get the part and I auditioned twice. And then I came in and third time's a charm. I've been blessed."

Osbourne prodded into the young actor's love life, asking him about dating in Hollywood.

"If I meet her, then we'll see what happens. We'll explore options. But, for right now, focusing on work," he said. "The times that I do look... okay, I went out on a date once and the girl asked me tons of questions about me. I asked tons of questions about her -- she tells me nothing. She wants me to open up, but she doesn't want to. So? You know what?"

Montgomery also spoke of a new documentary project he is working on that focuses on his grandfather, jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery.

"I wanted to do something, because nothing has been done for him like that. And I want to do it because it's my family. So something that matters to me. And to my family. I'm also on a polar opposite, working on some music of my own. But, it's in a hip-hop fashion."

Is Anthony even an actor? | Report this post to moderator

It was amazing to see that Anthony Montgomery even got on Sharon's show. I used to think that the TREK writers were screwing up by not giving him more to do on the ENT, but after seeing the interview, I can see that this guy isn't capable of sustaining a conversation, let alone deliver dramatic lines in a teleplay. NOT giving Montgomery much to do has probably gone a long way toward sparing the show any further ratings dropoffs.

How dare this guy even entertain the notion that he's an actor. He's even more two dimensional than the character he plays on ENTERPRISE.

Ozzy : "Who the ****'s Anthony Montgomery?"

Sharon: "Apparently he's on Enterprise!"

Ozzy: "What the ****'s Enterprise?"

Sharon: "Another one of those silly Star Trek shows?"

Ozzy: "Star Trek? ****ing beam me up Scotty!"

Sharon Osborne's show must be pretty desperate if they're scraping the bottom of the barrel to come up with Anthony Montgomery as a guest. Enterprise's very own token black, the diversity window-dressing, talks about his "career".....bwahahahahahahaha! And what career would that be? Bwahahahahahahahaha! Montgomery has exactly *one* facial expression that he uses for every scene in which he's a part of the furniture, and when he does get his one line an episode ("Aye sir"), you could get more energy and emotion just by putting a tape recorder in the helmsman's seat and pressing "Play". Travis Mayweather is even less of a character than Chakotay and Kim. What is with Star Trek and casting the absolute whitest black men in America? These oreos do nothing to expand Trek's demographic. Where are all the brothers with attitude? Aren't there any Crips or Bloods left in the future? Didn't anybody from south central sign up for Starfleet?

Wes' grandson, eh? | Report this post to moderator

First we have Matt Winston (Daniels), son of special effects makeup great Stan Winston. Now we have Anthony Montgomery, grandson of Jazz legend Wes Montgomery.

It's a shame that the interview/appearance didn't focus a bit more on ENT, its premise, and his part in it. The demographic the networks so crave were sitting in that audience and probably watches this talk show. But then maybe because the character has certainly been given short shrift of late and this talk show is on a competitor's network. ;-)

Oh well. An almost missed opportunity. At least the hostess mentions when ENT comes on the air. ;-)

"I think the show talked to people through the characters. They're stories that speak to the heart. They talk about love, they talk about friendship, they talk about loyalty, they talk about patriotism, exploration, curiosity, reaching out... And I think all those things still touch people. Even when you look at a 30-year old show, it still has something to say." - D.C. Fontana, Sci Fi Channel Special Edition TOS 1998

Outer Space. The last frontier.

These are the trips of the Star Trek Enterprise.

Its 5-year plan...

Calls for us to seek out new life and new civilizations.

To boldly fly where no man has gone in space.
