Okay, I wrote an upcoming episode called FIELD OF FIRE, which focusses
largely on Ezri Dax and another Dax who shall remain nameless. It's a
bit of a thriller, tangentally tied in to the war arc. I wrote the first
draft, and then, like any good freelancer, rode off into the sunset and
left all the hard work to Ira and Hans. I think the story's pretty good
and the guys seem very happy with the final product. Hans said he thinks
it's one of the best episodes of the year so far.
Spoilers:
FIELD OF FIRE features....
Blood.
Angst.
Trill mumbo-jumbo.
Death.
The surprising return of a long lost plot thread.
Mild doses of tech.
Fear.
Suspicion.
Did I mention death? Death.
Boy, I bet you missed the amazing amount of detail and revelation in my
spoilers. Geeze, don't even have to watch the episode now, do you?
Hope everyone likes it. I had a good time. It was fun writing something
in two weeks and having it on the stage in three again. I forgot how fast
things go after eighteen months in development hell. The guys have floated
the idea of me doing one more before the end, and I may bite, schedules
(theirs and mine) permitting.
Oh, well. Back to the salt mines.
A young lieutenant named Ilario is found dead in his quarters. An
investigation reveals he was shot by a TR-116 rifle, a weapon developed but
never mass-produced by Starfleet. Meanwhile, Ezri confronts one of Dax's
previous incarnations in a dream: Joran, a self-professed murderer, urges Ezri
to channel his disturbing memories and enable him to assist her in apprehending
Ilario's killer. When Ezri awakens, she learns that a second murder has
occurred.
