Notes:

  • The Motion Picture Sound Editors nominated "The Way of the Warrior, Part II" for their Golden Reel award for Excellence in Sound Editing for TV Series or Movies.

  • This episode was dedicated to the memory of Gregg Duffy Long (assistant to the DS9 writing staff who died of AIDS near the end of the third season) and Ronald W. Smith (Hair Stylist for DS9 and Voyager, who died of a heart attack).

  • DS9 is conducting random Changeling preparedness tests, using Odo as the target. In the test at the beginning of this episode, the crew took 3 hours, 27 minutes to catch Odo.

  • Captain Sisko is now bald, keeping the moustache and beard.

  • The Tholian Ambassador owed Capt. Sisko a favor, but that was used to get some Tholian silk for Kasidy Yates.

  • The Pike City Poineers, one member of whom is Kasidy Yates' brother, on Cestus III, have a fancy hat with their own logo. Kasidy brought one for Ben.

  • Cestus III is eight weeks away from DS9 at maximum warp.

  • "The way to a woman's heart is through her stomach" -- Capt. Sisko's father (Joseph Sisko, cf. "front").

  • Kasidy noted that the Cardassians have closed their borders.

  • The Nagvar is the new Klingon flagship; General Martok is the captain of the ship.

  • These were not prosent in Part 1 of the two-episode version:
    • Sand peas take Yamok Sauce.

    • Quark has sensetive ears... the ambient noise level is 30dB in the room, while on a normal day it is 65dB. When Klingons are around, it can get as high as 85dB. Basically, "It's quiet."

  • Humans, Bajorans, and Klingons all have red blood.

  • These were not prosent in Part 1 of the two-episode version:
    • The Obeshian/Hubecian Baths are a favorite relaxing place on Trill.

    • A Bajoran Vedek or Monk was seen arriving on the station at the same time as the Klingons.

  • Odo can imitate a glass and coffee, then drink himself, to give the appearance of eating and drinking. He's following up to his request of Garak in "The Die is Cast" that they share breakfast sometime.

  • Drex has never seen someone of Morn's species so far away from the Ionite Nebula, which is likely the of his species.

  • Ensign Saunders was looking for Morn.

  • Garak knows a few Klingon oaths:
"You'd be surprised at the things you can learn while doing alterations." -- Garak

  • The Bitreka Nebula skirmish was an 18-year battle between the Cardassians and the Klingons which took place ages ago.

  • Captain Yates's freighter is the Zoza; the M'Char is the Klingon ship attacking the Zoza (017x346)

  • Bajoran law forbids search and seizure without just cause.

  • Kasidy is going on a two-week trip.

  • General Martok had Commander Kaybok killed for failing to follow orders to search the Zoza.

  • "In the long run, the only people who can really handle the Klingons... are Klingons." -- Curzon Dax (by proxy of Sisko)

  • Sisko's got his baseball on his desk.

  • Lt. Cmdr. Worf has been spending his time since the destruction of the Enterprise (cf. Star Trek Generations) on Borath, discussing things with the clerics there. He has apparently forgiven the clerics there of their deeds in TNG's "Rightful Heir".

  • Worf has considered resigning his commission soon.

  • Sisko had, at one point, also considered resigning his commission, but he knew____
  • Worf's having prune juice, chilled. He first had this drink in TNG's "Yesterday's Enterprise".

  • Dax and Kira have been spending time recently trying to relax in the Holosuites. One program they tried was an Arthurian program where they encountered Sir Lancelot.

  • Worf knows of Curzon, who has an honored name among the Klingons.

  • Worf brought with him a picture of himself and Alexander, his son.

  • The House of Martok is an honored one, with a proud heritage. Drex is of the House of Martok.

  • Oops: The Enterprise holodeck-door-sound was used rather than the holosuite-door-sound.

  • Dax has a Klingon exercise program... but it is Jadzia's, not Curzon's.

  • Worf tried to contact Chancellor Gowron, Emperor Kahless, and his brother Kurn (who has a seat on the High Council) to no avail.

  • Huraga's family owes Mogh's [Worf's father's] for assisting the House of Huraga in their blood feud with the House of Duras.

  • Worf has read Odo's Starfleet security file, and Odo has read Worf's.

  • The Cardassian Central Command was overthrown and the government taken over by civilians. The Klingons believe that this uprising was engineered by the Dominion.

  • The Federation Council is the governing board of the Federation.

  • "N'cha" (Klingon) == "Begin" (Terran).

  • The course from DS9 to the Cardassian Empire is 269 mark 032.

  • The Cardassian dissident movement has been gaining strength for years. With the Obsidian Order out of the way (cf. "The Die is Cast"), they might have finally succeeded.

  • Morn bought some Vaterian wool undergarments from Garak, but did not buy the earmuffs.

  • Sisko might have lost a little weight.

  • The Obsidian Order ________.

  • The Klingons have withdrawn from the Khitomer Accords, the peace treaty with the Federation.

  • Gowron still has really big eyes.

  • Pakleds play Dabo, too.

  • Worf has considered leaving Starfleet to join the Nyvarite Alliance, who are always looking for good officers.

  • Alexander, Worf's son, is staying with his grandparents on Earth.

  • Gul Dukat is now Chief Military Advisor to the Deteppa Council, the rightful rulers of Cardassia.

  • Capt. Sisko bet Dax that Gul Dukat would thank him for his rescue, before complaining about something. Sisko lost.

  • Quark's coisin Gaila (cf. "Civil Defense") was in the weapon-dealing business and suggested that Quark do the same. Quark did not, because he is a "people person" and weapon customers don't usually have time to talk. Because of that, Gala now owns a moon, and Quark is stuck on DS9.

  • Root beer is bubbly, cloying, and happy, just like the Federation. It also seems good after a while, despite its flaws, just like the Federation. At least, so say Garak and Quark.

  • Rom used some of the parts of Quark's pistol, but will return them soon.

  • Odo can read Ferengi.

  • Today is a good day to die.

  • Worf is now in a red uniform, and has become DS9's Strategic Operations Officer.

  • Worf requested Prune Juice, a Warrior's Drink TM, which he first drank in TNG's "Yesterday's Enterprise".

  • Worf stated that he had never been on a Starfleet ship with a cloak before. This is not entirely true--in TNG's "The Pegasus", the Enterprise had a phased cloak for a short while. It may be supposed that the matter was classified, but Worf should still not have been so surprised.

  • A Novelization of this episode is available.
Quotes:
  • Bashir and Garak after the Cardassian was beaten:
    Bashir:
    I can't believe you're not pressing charges.
    Garak:
Constable Odo and Captain Sisko expressed a similar concern, but really doctor, there was no harm done.
    Bashir:
They broke seven of your transverse ribs and fractured your clavicle.
    Garak:
Ahh, but I got off several cutting remarks which no doubt did serious damage to their egos.
    Bashir:
    Garak, this isn't funny.
    Garak:
I'm serious, doctor. Thanks to your ministrations, I'm almost completely healed, but the damage I did to them will last a lifetime.
  • O'Brien introducing Dr. Bashir to Worf:
    O'Brien:
Dr. Julian Bashir, Lt. Cmdr. Worf.
    Bashir:
Care for a game of darts?
    Worf:
    I do not play games.
    O'Brien:
It's like poker, but with pointed tips.
    O'Brien:
Aw-right then, think of it as target practice
    Bashir:
The object is to throw this dart and hit that board over there.
    O'Brien:
Aim for the dot in the middle.
  • Worf to a Arthurian-capped Kira: "Nice hat."
  • The Garak thing:
    Sisko:
Mr. Garak, I'd like to see you in the ward room immediately. Bring your tailor's kit.
    Dax:
All together, we're talking about well over 100 ships, just in the first wave.
    Garak:
Excuse me, I hope I'm not interrupting.
    Sisko:
I'd like to be measured for a new suit.
    Garak:
    Now?
    Sisko:
    Right now.
    Garak:
But Captain, I do have your measurements.
    Sisko:
Take them again. You were saying, Commander
    Dax:
I was saying that between ground forces and warships, the Klingons have committed almost a third of their military to this invasion.
    Sisko:
How long before they reach their target?
    Worf:
According to out estimates, the task force should enter Cardassian space within the hour.
    Sisko:
Don't forget the waist, I think I've lost a little weight.
    Garak:
Well thank you, Captain. I think I have everything I need.
The Stars Speak:
  • From a CompuServe conference:
Quinn J. Adkins asks: "Alexander, What prompted you to change your name in the show's credits?"
Alexander Siddig: "There's no short answer--but Nana hated my old one."
