The Stars Speak:
  • From an Orlando, Florida Convention:
Nana Visitor: "Yes, I did, I've made mistakes. I made one mistake... Are some of you from yesterday? You know this story already. I'm sorry, but I'm gonna have to tell it, it was the big... I pride myself on always knowing my lines and always being able to get through with no problems, you know, because I wanna get past that and get to the real fun part of acting. I don't want lines to be in the way. And, actually, it wasn't that the line was in the way, it was the thought of it. I had a line... the Commander says, um..." [comments from the peanut gallery. lots of laughter] "Come up here and tell the story!

"Get up here, come on, I mean it! You remember it? Where are you? All right, come here! I mean it!"

    [more laughter, applause.]

Unknown Trekkie: "... well, she laughed, Avery laughed, Colm laughed, and every time..." [the audience is breaking up] [more laughter]

Nana Visitor: "You know what it was, I had to say, "Oh, my God, I don't know, but if Odo doesn't get back to his pail in time..." [audience: bucket!] No... Well, I think I said pail. Was it bucket? It WAS bucket? All right, see, you all know the story better than I do, anyway!"

[mournfully] "I'm losing control! And the idea of Odo going... 'Oh, I've gotta get back now!' It just killed me, it killed me! And Colm was over here, and Avery was over here.

"And I laughed through about six takes of it, and then finally Colm started his little twinkling in the eye to get me going.

"And I was actually gonna get through it. I thought, 'All right, I'm gonna get through this line. We're actually gonna be able to take this. We're gonna be able to film this.' And I look at Colm and he's... he goes 'bing-bing' with his eyes, you know? [laughs] And I went. And okay. And I say, 'Colm, c'mon, you can't do that.' He goes, 'What? What am I doing?'

"He knows exactly what he's doing. So, finally, I got through this, I got through looking at Colm, all right, we're gonna make this. It's very late at night. Everyone's getting a little bit tired. They don't wanna see me laugh anymore. So, it's like, all right, I'm going to say it... and then, Avery... I hear [snicker] [laughter] and HE went! And it was, uh, I never did say the line without laughing. I said it very straight-faced, I was holding myself. It was almost like I had to leave my body to say it: 'Oh, my God, I don't know...' The one that was filmed was, 'My God, I don't know, but if Odo doesn't get back to his bucket in time...' [laughter]

"And if you watch the show, they cut really fast, because the director said, well, we're gonna have to take that one, because obviously we're never gonna get this line. [laughter]

"And I said, '... bucket in time.' Boom! And they're off me and they're on to someone else, but that's how they had to do it. So that was one time that it took forever... [dryly] kinda like this STORY [laughter] to get it out. [laughs]"

    -----

Nana Visitor: "Will Majel Barrett be coming back? I don't know. I think she and Odo really cooked something up. [laughter, smattering of applause] So I have a feeling that they're not gonna leave that alone, that she will be back. That's my own feeling."
